Due to the bulking of the fibers, the fibers are arranged more neatly and the reflection of light is more regular. Thus, the gloss is enhanced.

After mercerizing treatment, the crystalline area of the fiber is reduced, and the amorphous area is increased, and the effect of fuel and other chemicals on the fiber occurs in the amorphous area, so the dye uptake rate and the chemical reaction performance of the fiber are improved after mercerization. .

In the process of mercerization, the arrangement of fiber macromolecules tends to be neat, the degree of orientation is improved, and the uneven deformation of the fiber surface is eliminated, reducing weak links. When subjected to external force, more macromolecules can be evenly shared, the primary breaking strength increases, and the breaking elongation decreases.

The mercerizing effect can be used to eliminate rope creases, and it can better meet the quality requirements of dyeing and printing semi-finished products. More importantly, after mercerizing, the stability of the fabric's expansion and deformation has been greatly improved, and the shrinkage rate of the fabric has been greatly reduced.

Types of mercerized cotton

According to different mercerized objects, mercerized cotton can be generally divided into yarn mercerization, fabric mercerization and double mercerization.

Yarn mercerizing: refers to a special type of cotton yarn that is treated with high concentration of caustic soda or liquid ammonia under the condition of tension, so that it has both the original characteristics of cotton and silk-like luster.

Fabric mercerization: It refers to the cotton fabric that is treated with high concentration of caustic soda or liquid ammonia under the condition of tension, so that the fabric has better gloss, more rigidity and better shape retention.

Double mercerizing refers to fabrics made from mercerized cotton yarns.
