II. Working Principle of Color Fixing Agents: Multi-pronged Approach for Locking in Color

1.Electrostatic "Attraction," Firm Locking


This is similar to the attraction between positive and negative charges on a magnet. Many dyes (such as direct and acid dyes) carry anions (negative charges), while fixing agents carry cations (positive charges). When they meet, they bind firmly, forming a water-insoluble "lake" on the fiber surface, locking the water-soluble dye onto the fiber and preventing it from easily detaching in water. This is one of the most classic and widely used color-fixing mechanisms.

2. Chemical Reaction, Tight "Binding" 

This type of fixing agent acts like a "chemical welder," possessing active groups (such as epoxy groups). It can simultaneously react chemically with the hydroxyl groups on the dye molecules and cellulose molecules on the fiber, forming a strong "cross-linked network structure" that tightly "binds" the dye, fiber, and itself together, greatly enhancing the bonding strength.

3. Film-forming "encapsulation" for comprehensive protection

 These fixing agents act more like "guardians," forming a dense, soft polymer protective film on the surface of fibers and dyes. This film encapsulates the dye, physically isolating it from external factors such as water and friction.
